The Difference Between Vaping and Smoking?

The Difference Between Vaping and Smoking?

Many believe that smoking and vaping are very similar activities that people do for the same reasons – they either think it looks cool, tastes nice … or they’re hooked.

The truth is that smoking and vaping are produced under entirely different conditions. For smoking, a substance must undergo a process called combustion, or incomplete combustion, in order to produce smoke. Whereas vaping is when a liquid is heated up and turns into vapor.

Really, the only thing in common is that they are both inhaled, and exhaled as a big cloud – whether that’s a big cloud of tobacco smoke or watermelon vapor – that’s entirely up to you.

So if you’re deciding between picking up cigarettes or cbd vape juice, here are some of the key differences that may help you make up your mind.

Health and Safety

From anti-smoking advertising campaigns to thousands, if not millions, of peer-reviewed studies focused on the implications of smoking – the widespread consensus is that smoking is bad for you.

The harmful effects occur when tobacco is heated and creates a process known as incomplete combustion. During incomplete combustion, hazardous by-products are created and do damage to every organ in the body. Some of the chemical by-products in tobacco smoke include:

  • Ammonia
  • Hydrogen cyanide
  • Nitrosamines
  • Lead
  • Benzene
  • Formaldehyde
  • Carbon monoxide

Vaping on the other hand does not involve combustion, but works via an in-built coil that heats the e-liquid, causing the liquid to vaporize. This is not to say vaping is entirely safe, but is deemed as a much healthier alternative to smoking when done correctly.

Delivery

Smoking is also different from vaping in terms of the way it's delivered to the body. Smoking generally uses concentrated or dried plant material. The dried parts are processed then smoked through rolled cigarettes, pipes, or bongs.

On the other hand, vaping mostly uses vape juices, also known as vape oils or e-liquids. These liquids are usually separate from the vaping device and have to fill it manually. This means greater control in terms of the ingredients and flavor of the vape.

However, both vaping and smoking act fast in terms of nicotine delivery. Effects can be felt within as short as 10 – 15 minutes, which means that users can get instant relief from CBD vape pens.

Cost

Health risks aside, the cost of smoking is a massive turn off for most people. Smokers spend huge amounts of money every year on smoking, mainly due to government taxes on the habit, and it can get too much. While vaping doesn’t come without its costs, it is still significantly cheaper than the alternative.

Once the initial e-cigarette device is purchased (which is mostly a one-off purchase) and e-liquid oil, you can vape for weeks on end without spending any more money. Provided you carry out the proper cleaning and maintenance for your vaporizer, you’ll avoid any avoidable repair and replacement costs. This means, the only cost will be your vape juice, which is only a once in a while purchase.
